Honesty

From Port Macquarie, Australia

I m racing my first ironman in over 12 months and healthy first the first time a long while! This Sunday is a good test to see if I been able to come back to my past level and find out where I m at....We always hear about how great athlete feel the week before a race and how much they look forward to get into the action!

Well, that isn’t the case with me! To be very honest, I haven’t felt much rythme for the last month or so! At this moment, I m feeling pretty terrible, the legs aren’t firing up at all. I m riding up the hills like I m pulling a 18 wheelers behind me, there is no bounce in my stride and my arms are simply not alive….. I know I have some fitness in me but it just not showing much right now. So, 72h before the race, this is where I m…….

Of course, my mind goes crazy thinking how the hell will you fake a strong ironman and pull this one out of the bag. How can you turn things around. Yes, the freak out zone is revisited once again……Well, I have 48h to get my mind to take over the body and get the work done properly…..

We will see on Sunday if I m strong or weak mentally………………….

Don't "over think" the race Jonny! Despite how you feel at the current moment, move forward confidently knowing you've done the work and have the talent. Get out there on race day and let things flow, they will fall into place and make things happen!

We'll be thinking of you! (Jordi girl too) :)

Just have fun with it! Remember the race itself is the good part of all of that training.XXXXOOOOO

Jonny,

Sounds like you need to change your definition of 'fun' ;)

Seriously though, I've seen you pull killer races/workouts/moves with the ladies, right out of thin air many times. We all know you've got it in you - make it a good one! I'll be watching.

You've done the homework and I make mine the words that Danny Montoya told you. You got to go there and have fun, everything will take place. Sometimes this "weird feeling" and this lack of fitness is just a wrong perception of what's going on and on race day everything will be better than what you expect now!
Go ahead, MAA!

Hey, your'e saying you're in bad shape and in freak out weird zone before the race?....

Great!- That should ensure a stellar result!

Isn't this what happened before IM Canada too?...

Best of Luck,
- Jeff

I'll definitely be keeping tabs on-line with great interest. Have fun and enjoy it for the most part,...conserve conserve conserve!!!...you know when to up the effort and allow yourself to suffer. Go to the dark-place, live in the zone!

Good luck man - don;t sweat the "how I feel" stuff - you know you have it in you, and you know you can do the work.

And try to have fun - that takes care of most of the mental stuff.

Hate to see you having performance anxiety.
